It’s time to put government back on the side of the people

November 17, 2008 by Maureen Backman

The election is over, but our work has just begun.

We must roll up our sleeves to reverse some of the damaging policies enacted over the past eight years. We have a chance to make real change happen. But we need your help.

We’ve have waited so long for an administration that is willing to promote an agenda for people – not corporations. Now, we have the best opportunity in a decade to put government back on the side of the people. Join us in making our “Citizens’ Agenda” a priority in 2009 and beyond so we can:

  • Put homeowners ahead of CEOs in the massive Wall Street/auto industry bailout
  • Clean up government by breaking ties between lawmakers and big corporate dollars and lobbyists
  • Boost wages, ensure import safety and protect the environment by replacing the failed NAFTA/WTO trade model
  • Create green jobs and stabilize the economy with clean, sustainable and renewable energy
  • Ensure safety of toys, pharmaceuticals and other products
  • And more

This is an all-out effort to urge Congress and the administration to focus on these issues. And with the recent reports in the news that no action has been taken to create much needed oversight for the massive $700 billion bailout, our agenda is coming not a moment too soon.

But it won’t be easy. Corporate lobbyists will campaign relentlessly to maintain their strangle hold over government and block our agenda.

Please donate to help ensure we have the resources to fight for you and champion the Citizens’ Agenda this country so desperately needs. We don’t have much time before the new Congress convenes and President-Elect Obama takes office. Your donation of $25, $50, $100, or even a monthly gift will make a big difference in our ability to work for positive and enduring change.

You can also help by encouraging your friends and colleagues to pledge their support.

Together, we can make real change happen.

As if the lack of disclosure and transparency by corporate america in it’s financial raping of this country, while logically criminal with no apparrent culpability, yet the financial burden is placed on the taxpayer’s shoulders for decades to come – We are now enlightened that the GAO has determined the US Treasury simply ignored any application of due diligence in terms of enforceable guarantees of the TARP.

Seems to many of us that a “full circle of fraud” has surfaced. From corporate america through our country’s financial overseer (Treasury) and ultimately the Congress and Senate via it’s blessing after nearly 10 whole hours of due diligence ! This entire scenario is truly a discrace, and as a taxpaying citizen – Unacceptable representation.

At what point does John Q Public stand up and declare “Enough is Enough” It appears that the time for the citizens to reclaim the USofA is quickly approaching. The “Trickle up” vision that is undoubtedly surfacing begins with confronting this collaborative fraudulent scam from the “bottom up”.
Giving local political representation the opportunity to address and launch systemic attention and action. Failure of local representation to “walk the walk” results is a logical and growing opinion to demand culpability via simpy firing the current and future self serving, smoke and mirror political leadership that has, and will continue (regardless of party affiliation) to lead this country into an era that will inevitably destroy the founding fundamental principles of “for and by the people via collaborated relentless local and national demonstrations over the period of 3 months culminating in a march on our nations capitol that would make the million man march look like a back yard B-B-Q . I may be wrong but I do believe this occurred once before in this nations history.

While we all can only hope our nation does not degrade to this point – day by day, the unbridled ignorance and derelection of duty displayed by this country’s current leadership is not diminishing the chances – While the smoke and mirror, snake charming diatribe of promises and pie in the sky idealism presented by the “Administration elect” does little to address the meat and potatoes issues that everyday John Q Public is interested in – Walking the Walk as opposed to Talking the Talk. Red and Blue politics as usual has proven to be a regurgitation of “failure gone wild and non partisan fraud run amuck”
